
Each year, the Gulf Resilience Community of Practice gives awards recognizing individuals, organizations and communities who have done an exemplary job of communicating resilience challenges in the Gulf of America. The group announced its Spirit of Community Award winners during its annual meeting this June in Houma, Louisiana. The awards were given in three categories: individual, community and community champion.
Winners included:
- Individual: deEtte Smythe of St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana.
- Community: Refugio County, Texas (winner) and St. Petersburg, Florida (honorable mention).
- Community Champion: Boat People SOS.
This year, the group also recognized Stephen Deal, of Mississippi-Alabama Sea Grant for 10 years of service to the Gulf Resilience Community of Practice.
