The Gulf of Mexico Sea Grant Regional Meeting is set for Feb 7-9, 2023. It will take place at The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Park at 730 East Beach Blvd. in Long Beach, Mississippi.
About the Meeting
Since the last time the Gulf of Mexico Sea Grant programs convened at a regional meeting five years ago, the Gulf states have experienced over 15 hurricanes, seven federal fisheries disasters, and one global pandemic that has been designated a public health disaster. Each of the programs has responded to these challenges in unique and novel ways. Communications, education, extension, and research personnel developed new collaborations to address existing and emerging stakeholder needs. To benefit the entire Gulf Sea Grant network and build future capacity, we are hosting a joint regional meeting for personnel from the Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi-Alabama, and Texas Sea Grant programs.
With representation from the four different programs and many networks (communication, education, extension, legal), the meeting will:
- Communicate various perspectives related to regional topics and challenges;
- Network with one another to build community and collaborative relationships among the programs;
- Identify and assess funding opportunities that can address Gulf of Mexico issues along with potential partnerships to achieve these goals; and
- Create a more resilient, robust Gulf of Mexico with the ability to regionally collaborate.
Who Should Attend
Personnel from the Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi-Alabama, and Texas Sea Grant programs.
